Types of visa issued by the Immigration Department of Malaysia

a) Single Entry Visa

The Malaysia government allows citizens of USA and most Asean countries to enter the country without a visa, subject to a maximum staying period. To verify the requirement for your country of nationality, have a look at Malaysia visa requirements by country. Most tourists intending to enter Malaysia for social visits are required to apply for the Single Entry Visa. This visa is only valid one (1) visit and must be utilized within three (3) months from the date it is issued.

b) Multiple Entry Visa

This visa is issued to a foreign citizen entering Malaysia for the purpose of business or government-to-government matters. Subject to approval, the entry period is from three (3) months up to twelve (12) months from the date visa is issued. Extension of stay beyond one (1) year is not permissible.

If you are a tourist from People's Republic of China and India, you are entitled to apply for Multiple Entry Visa under the social visit category. However, this is NOT applicable to group tours.

Applicants of Multiple Entry Visa may be asked to provide the following evidences:

-        Sufficient fund to support stay in Malaysia

-        Confirmed return ticket

c) Transit Visa

If you are on transit in Malaysia en-route to another destination using the same flight, a visa is not required. 

Nevertheless, if you need to leave the airport vicinity while on transit, a Transit Visa would be necessary.
